Drowning in the Sea of Opinions

The media has bombarded us with images of racially-driven crimes and discrimination.  For some reason, people are shocked and appalled that these offenses are happening in USA.  Very quick history lesson…it has happened since the inception of United States of America (as the ’13 Colonies’).  It is the core foundation of the nation.  Its Constitution and all of its ambiguity states that persons of direct African descent are 3/5 of a human.  In essence, it is lawful to mistreat Black/African people in USA.  Surely, this law has played out miserably.  In fact, it has been overplayed in society on all fronts.

Etaniel Ben Yehuda, aka ‘E as Poetlove Water’, who is a poet/writer/artist/human rights activist, asks the readers (and your colleagues, friends, neighbors, co-workers, family, etc.) “Why does ANY offense against Black people in this country surprise you?”  Yes, the heinous acts of injustice and hatred against African descendants are deplorable and sinister.  Naturally, the persons with soft hearts and living souls will feel the pain of the victims.  But, I believe it becomes a theatrical performance when you gasp and emote heavily. That is the CORE of USA…the country was built and establish on blood, sweat and tears of persons of ethnicity.

In the early to mid 1900’s, lynching was the premier activity to follow Sunday morning “worship” in Christian churches.

In the advent of social media in 2000’s, the highly-opinionated American had a springboard to divulge every thought and feeling around the cyberglobe.  It seemed revolutionary and progressive.  Then, it became convoluted, annoying and provided the excuse for adults to revel in child-like behaviors (bickering, name-calling, ridiculing people, being clique-ish, etc.).  As we return to 2015, it seems to have gotten worse.  Now, we are in the age of Internet Revolutionaries and Internet Crybabies!

As my writings in the far and recent past have stated, the generations were not listening to the wise Elders. Although their voices were almost muted, the soundwaves still went out in the atmosphere and some of us caught it.  Another unfortunate thing about life in USA is that it is socially constructed on the youth element. That is very dangerous!  The Elders sit with an insight and wisdom that have been earned.  You can’t pay for it.  Much of the general public chose to follow frivolous distractions of celebrities like “who’s dating who?”, “what dress did she wear?” and “he dumped her for another woman”.  The majority of the people don’t even know these people on a remotely personal basis.  Yet, you allow the fantasy of your lives to dictate your reality.  Again, that shows the power of media.

Several years ago, progressive thinkers of various circles forewarned the American public of certain events to come.  One warning pertained to the ideal that conservatives were interested in a “race war” with the support of the National Rifle Association (NRA).  During this time, there were campaigns running in predominantly Black and Latino neighborhoods to “buy back guns from the streets”.  Some exchanged handguns for a nominal amount of cash.  Covert disenfranchisement is what that operation can be called. The act ensured that a limited amount of Black/Latino men and women would be unable to protect themselves, families and communities.  Now, each day offers a barrage of videos containing graphic images of police brutality.  Do you believe that is happenstance?  Let me answer……NOPE, NOPE and NOPE!  It is clearly by design.  If the “suspect” does not get killed, then ways will be sought to imprison the citizen of USA.  Please check out the chart below.

According to American Psychological Association (APA), these are the incarceration rates in various nations of the world. The rates are based on figures compiled in October 2014

The Cells of the Tissue That Should Feel — the second published book by Etaniel Ben Yehuda (E as Poetlove Water). ‘The Cells’ is the extroverted communication that follows the debut book release of The Chronicles of Air, Water and the Source (iUniverse Publishing). The voice is louder, the verbal “smacks” come with more force, the sociopolitical commentary envelopes clear analysis and personal support is more substantial. The writings are formatted as poetry and prose.

Some featured works included are: “As the Nile River Rises”, a poem that speaks on current manifestations of Arab racism against Indigenous East African groups; “Markwan’s Letter”, a honestly written “letter” from the perspective of a young Black man living in urban USA; “Why I Love…..” Series, a series of poem that shares the reasons/cultural nuances that I love about various places I have lived and/or visited; and “The Connection”, it takes a humorous approach to the benefits of eating healthy, natural foods.

Expected Release Date: July 22, 2014

For the next several weeks, I will post previews of excerpts of specially-selected poems/prose from ‘The Cells’. Pre-ordering will begin on July 1, 2014. The book will be available for purchase at http://www.easpoetlovewater,com. Also, stay tuned for special offers/promotions. Thank you to all for past, present and future support! Bliss

Blinded Hearts, Hardened Minds

Popular culture has become centered around celebrities and psuedo-celebrities.  This turn is very interesting because when you analyze this phenomena, the celebrities usually possess very few interesting qualities.  Most are judged on physical appearances (looks/grade of beauty, clothing worn, hairstyle), sales volume of product(s) and which “hot” location paparazzi snapped pictures.  One other significant factor is family lineage.  The latest benefactor, for lack of a better term, is Willow Smith.

Controversy has already eclipsed the innocence of Willow’s childhood.  With the obvious decline of social morale and standards, it has played out in a dual manner.  There are those who empathize and the others sensationalize.  It is encoded in most of our DNA that a 13-year old female should not lay in bed with a shirtless 20-year old male, with whom she is unrelated.  The main question should be “how can her parents approve such creative work?”  The answer is simple and very deep.  Willow is the product of two Hollyweird parents, both actors.  Will Smith is a huge international celebrity and Jada Pinkett-Smith is notable actress.  But, Willow doesn’t “belong” to her parents.

Success in modern times within the entertainment industry usually entails a tradeoff or compromise.  Unfortunately, this 13-year old girl is a tool for further social deterioration.  She is part of a wave of young females and males that are used as objects for negative influence.  I don’t have to further elaborate.  For persons who have properly functioning eyes and ears, it can be seen and heard clearly.

The solution:  explain to your children/youth in community/students that the picture and behaviour as such is inappropriate.  GIve a list of sound reasons why such action is dangerous and should not be imitated.  Social responsibility is much better than social passivity.  Bliss
