As the Sun Returned

Yummy Chocolate Cake to share (photo courtesy of Squidoo)

The 25th of June signifies a couple of things.  The birth of E and the death of Michael Jackson.  Now, this day is bittersweet for many.  Friends, family and I reflect and appreciate E’s life.  The world plays “Billie Jean”, “Don’t Stop til You Get Enough”, “Remember the Time” and “Human Nature”, among MJ’s numerous classics.

This day for me represented peace, solidarity, clarity and a strong sense to move forward.  There was an outpouring of love and positive affirmations.  So, I decided that I wanted to gift everyone with a poem.  Hopefully, this poem will inspire others to give to those in need of love, guidance and honesty.  Please go to ‘Pieces of Life’ to read.  It is entitled ‘Markwan’s Letter’.  Feel free to comment.

Until then, be great!!!

The Developments

The journey of life continues to pose its challenges.  Yet, I am inspired and daunted I become.  I tire of the continual cycles that bring me up and drag me down.  Reaching the point of no return has been amazing!  Perseverance, clarity, steadfastness and places to invest my loyalties are daily meditations.  As the riches flow, I absorb and obtain more than enough to share with the community.

As some know, I have been working in education, youth & community development and/or nonprofit for the past several years.  Children teach you yourself, patience, a deep caring for souls, and joy!  I increase my experience and knowledge to impart upon the little people that grow.  Teaching Artists….wonderful people they are.  Teaching your gift to others who aspire for great and impacting artistic expressions is priceless.  In 2010, I created a Creative Writing Curriculum for middle-school aged students.  It was first facilitated at the ‘Take Action Summer Day Camp’ in East Harlem for Summer 2011.  The bright ideas those students manumitted amazed me!  So, I continue to seek ways to share, enlighten, develop and encourage free and sincere expressions.

Aspirations that I have include the following:

  1. Travel the world sharing my gift to inspire, encourage and relate to the many peoples of the planet (and beyond).
  2. Opportunities to speak and meet with other artistes, social justice advocate and community/civic/spiritual leaders.
  3. Sustain a viable income to invest in family and community.
  4. Challenge the opposing and unnatural thoughts and actions of entities that do not support healthy living (in the holistic sense).
  5. Have my works studied by future generations.

The best way to receive is to give (‘Thought of the Decade, #16’).  I plan to give in the form of a fundraising event that focuses on socially-conscious artistes.  It’s in the works.  Stay tuned!

Until then…..Shalom & Umoja!!!

Up to, what have I been?!?!

This wonderful question has an even more wonderful response.  Check it out!

  • As I have been an advocate for peace and social justice, my energies were expended at the ‘Sudanese Marginalization Forum Conference’ in Richmond, VA.  The conference was held on Saturday, 26 May at the West End Community Center.  The conference hosted East African leaders from all over the world.  E as Poetlove Water was given the opportunity to debut the poem, ‘As the Nile River Rises’ (which will be included in my 2nd book, The Cells of the Tissue that Should Feel).  The poem speaks on honoring the indigenous Kushite/Sudanese peoples, Arab racism, freedom and justice.
  • There was a “fortune list” written, prior to the publishing of my book.  I was able to scratch off one name of the family representative of a past Afrikan leader, whose mission was to liberate Afrikan people.  I was extremely honored to be in contact with the son of this esteemed leader.  (For the sake of protection, I have decided to keep the representative’s identity anonymous).
  • I am embarking upon a campaign to have my 1st (and 2nd) book considered for academic curriculum, reading programs and literary offerings.  I, Legend, shall be!  I strongly desire to be studied while I am alive and transition.
  • The Cells of the Tissue that Should Feel, the soon-to-be second published book by E as Poetlove Water (Etaniel Ben Yehuda).  This book will pick up and run from where The Chronicles of Air, Water and the Source left off.  95% of the manuscript is complete.  The cover design and inside art is yet to be completed.  Will keep you posted!
  • Yet to be titled, the 3rd book will focus on holistic health and practical ways to improve health.  I plan to market this to underserved and economically-disadvantaged households in the African American and Latino American communities.  The book will provide tips, practical advice, healthy recipes and charts/tables.  For this book, I will be collaborating with two health experts as co-authors.  The anticipated release date is late 2012/early 2013.   Keep your eyes open!
  • Lastly, the ‘Creative Arts Program’ scheduled for July 2012 in The Gambia, West Africa has been postponed.  Due to insufficient fiscal support, the summer program will take place at a later time.  Thanks to all who have supported the efforts, thus far.
